Getting started

Blyzer is a platform for organising tournaments, leagues and races - in sports and esports. Organisers create an event, collect teams or racers, generate groups, a bracket and the match schedule, and enter results as they come in. Players and fans follow everything on the event's public page.

Click register in the top right corner and fill in your nickname, e-mail and basic personal details, or sign up with Google, Discord, Facebook or Steam. Steam and some Discord and Facebook accounts do not share an e-mail with us - in that case we will ask for your e-mail and verify it with a code. One account covers everything - you can play for teams, create your own teams and organise events.

The Game zone is your space after logging in (the „Game zone“ button in the top right) - logging in opens its Overview straight away. In „Playing“ mode it shows your teams' next match with a countdown, this week's matches, tournaments open for sign-up, news from the teams and organizers you follow, pending requests and players from your teams you may know (only you see them; turn it off in Settings → Notifications); in „Organizing“ mode it shows upcoming matches and the status of your events. Switch the mode in the top bar (the choice is saved to your account); next to it is the light / dark theme toggle. The side menu holds your events, teams, requests waiting for approval, the teams and organizers you follow (Following) and account settings. It is also where you create a new event with the „Create event“ button.

Tournaments and leagues are competitions between teams that play matches against each other - in groups, in a knockout bracket (playoff) or both. In Blyzer they are created and managed the same way; they differ in their label and in how the organiser sets them up. Races are for individuals: each racer competes on their own across stages, and the standings are calculated from measured values or from points for positions.

When creating an event or a team, you choose the game type (sport or esport) and then the specific game. For esports you also pick the platform and whether it is played online or offline - sports events are always played in person. Public pages of sports events and teams are shown in a light theme, esports ones in a dark theme.

How to create a tournament

Log in and click „Create event“ in the Game zone. On the start screen pick Tournament and how to start („Step by step“, „I have a schedule“ or „Create with AI“). Then fill in the basics - title, the Tournament form, level, game type and game, date, registration deadline, capacity and roster size - and save. The wizard then takes you through the Teams and players, Configure, Groups, Playoff and Matches steps.

Every wizard step has a „Tournament guide“ button in the top right (you can also open it from the tip in the left step panel). It opens a panel with questions and answers for exactly the step you are on. Answers marked with the „Tournament guide“ label on this page are the same as the ones in the app.

You have three options (the cards at the top): „Public registration“ - any team can send an application even without a private link; „Add team“ - you type in team names manually when you handled registration outside the app; „Link team“ - you assign a team you already have in Blyzer (you own or manage it) that is set up for the same game.

Tournament guide

Min capacity is the smallest number of teams the tournament can be played with - until you reach it, the Configure step will warn you. Max capacity is the upper limit of teams in the tournament and can't be lower than the min capacity.

Tournament guide

The fee is the amount a team pays to enter the tournament. Cash and bank transfer payments happen outside of Blyzer - you then confirm a received payment at the team in the Teams and players step (coin icon „Approve payment“). The payment type can't be changed once the tournament is created.

Tournament guide

When your tournament is already drawn and scheduled elsewhere – in Excel, another app or a PDF from the federation – and you don’t want to build it again step by step in Blyzer. One CSV file replaces the Teams and players, Configure, Groups and Playoff steps. If you prefer to proceed manually, turn off “My tournament is already generated elsewhere” in the Settings step.

Tournament guide

After you save the configuration, the app offers to lock the tournament. Locking ends registration - teams can no longer be added or kicked (a team that has not played any match yet can still be replaced with another one in the Teams and players step), the configuration and part of the settings get locked and the wizard moves on. If the tournament has groups, the app immediately draws all confirmed teams into them at random. Until you lock the tournament, you can change and save the configuration freely.

Tournament guide

You confirm that the schedule is done and the tournament starts for real - the wizard moves you to the Schedule, where you enter results. The schedule can no longer be regenerated or taken a step back. In tournaments where you accepted the matches before this button was introduced, the Matches step shows the „Start“ button.

Tournament guide

If you have groups, close them after their matches are played so the tables are calculated and the advancing teams are placed into the bracket. Finally, evaluate the tournament in the Schedule (the final team standings are determined) and end it.

How to create a league

Just like a tournament - click „Create event“ in the Game zone and pick League on the start screen. You then follow the same wizard, so everything in the tournament guide applies to leagues too. You will find your leagues in the Game zone under Events → Leagues - there is also a „Create league“ button that pre-selects the League form. Ended and cancelled leagues move to the Archive tab.

In the Configure step, turn groups on and playoff off - or click the ready-made groups-only template. One group with all the teams is enough for a whole league. The number of meetings decides whether return matches are played (2 = everyone plays everyone home and away).

When you turn on „Timetable?“, the app calculates the time of each match itself when generating matches - from the tournament start date and start time, based on match length including break and the number of matches played at the same time (e.g. number of courts). After the end time it continues on the next day, and matches that don't fit before the tournament end date are left without a time. Optionally, each round can be played on a different day and a break can follow a stage.

Tournament guide

Yes. Turn on both groups and playoff in the Configure step. When you close the group after the regular season, the advancing teams are placed into the bracket automatically.

The group extension is another group stage (e.g. Champions League, Europa League) that gets filled only based on the results of the main groups. The extra playoff is a second, separate bracket (e.g. Semifinal B, Final B) - for example for teams that didn't make the main bracket. If you don't need them, leave them off.

How to create a race

Click „Create event“ in the Game zone and pick Races on the start screen (schedule import is not used for races). The game list then shows only games suitable for races. Races are for individuals, so there is no roster size to set - every racer competes on their own.

The Racers step gives you several options: type names manually (several at once, one per line), upload a CSV or XML file with First name and Last name columns (works even for hundreds of racers), or link a racer who already exists in Blyzer. If you enable public applications, racers can also sign up themselves.

No. Racers sign up for a race on their own, under their own name - they don't have to create any team, their own Blyzer account is enough.

The sort direction (whether a lower value such as time is better, or a higher one such as score), how the overall standings are calculated (sum of points for stage positions or sum of measured values), the points table - how many points each position earns - and optionally whether a stage should be run as a knockout bracket.

Once the race is locked, you add individual stages in the Stages step - title, date and time, and optionally capacity, description, image and logo. Enter the measured values for the racers and close the finished stage - Blyzer calculates positions and points according to the points table. Closing a stage cannot be undone. You enter the values for all racers at once with the „Enter results“ icon on the stage card (including confirmed racers who have no entry in the stage yet) - if you change them after the stage is closed, positions and points are recalculated automatically. You can change the stage title, date, capacity, description, image and logo at any time with the pencil icon on the stage card (even after it is closed) - the stage sort direction and points table stay fixed once the stage is created.

Yes. Unlike tournaments and leagues, locking a race does not close applications. On the race's public page, a racer signs up for a specific stage with the „Sign up for the stage“ button - as long as the stage is not closed and its capacity is not full.

If you turn on „Stage = playoff bracket“ in the configuration, the stage is not evaluated from measured values but as a knockout. Blyzer randomly draws the registered racers into a bracket (it can be generated only once) and, once played, derives positions and points from it according to the points table.

Quick tournament

The quick tournament is free and you don't need an account to create it. On the Quick tournament page you fill in one form - name, sport or esport, game, date, participants, format and your email - and the tournament is generated right away.

From 2 to 128. A participant can be a player or a team - for a team, its name is enough. Write each one on a separate line; names must not repeat. Groups need at least 4 participants, round robin at most 16.

The bracket is filled with byes - for example, with 6 participants four play in round 1 and two advance straight to the next round. Byes are spread evenly across the bracket and no match without an opponent is created. If you enter fewer names than the chosen number of participants, the tournament is created for the actual number of names.

Playoff (knockout bracket), groups, groups + playoff or round robin. The system draws participants into groups and the bracket at random.

After creating it you get a link to the tournament's public page and a QR code. Send them to players, for example via Discord or WhatsApp - they can see matches and results without signing up. We don't send players any emails automatically.

On the page you see right after creating the tournament, click “Edit tournament or enter score” and log in or sign up with the email you entered in the form. The tournament moves to your Game zone, where you enter scores and change settings. With “Reset tournament” you can choose a different format - groups, playoff, matches and recorded scores are deleted, participants are kept.

A quick tournament is a simple tournament without registrations: you enter the participants yourself and the tournament is generated right away. If you want teams to register themselves, pay an entry fee or have rosters, or you want a league or a race, create an event in your Game zone.

Teams

In the Game zone, open Teams → My teams and click the „Create team“ button in the top right (or the „New team“ card). Enter the title, nationality, game type and game. A team is always tied to one game - you can only enter it into a tournament played in the same game.

If you do, tick „Do you play for the team?“ when creating the team and set your position and jersey right away - you join the roster without sending an application. Otherwise you just manage the team as its owner.

You have three options: send players the team's private link or QR code (you'll find them on the team page in the Game zone) and they send you an application; add a player who already has an account by their public code (#); or create anonymous players - name only, without their own account, even several at once.

Every player and team has a short public code shown with a # sign in the Game zone - click it to copy it. If you send your code to a team owner, they can add you straight to the roster with it.

All pending requests - from players to your teams and from teams to your events - are in one place in the Game zone, in the „Requests“ section. You can approve or reject each of them. Resolved requests - who accepted or declined them and when - are in the „Resolved“ tab (the history is stored from the launch of this tab).

Yes. In the team settings, the owner can add managers by their username. The settings also let the owner transfer the team to someone else or cancel the team.

If the organiser enabled public applications, you'll find the event in the Game zone under Events → „Open for registration“, or on its public page. Otherwise the organiser sends you the event's private link or QR code. You apply with a team created for the same game (if you don't have one yet, you can create it right in the application - name, nationality and whether you play for it; add a logo and more players later in the Game zone): in the application you choose the team and its roster for this event, and for a paid event via Stripe you fill in billing details and continue to the payment. The team joins the event once the organiser approves it.

You pick the roster already in the event application - players from the team's squad (missing ones you can add right there - new players without an account by name, or a player with an account by public code #), their number must fit the range set by the organiser, and the players must meet the organiser's age limit. You can change it later in the Game zone: open your team and click „Change roster“ next to the event (also for an application still waiting for approval) - the same rules apply.

For players

Ask the team owner for the team's private link or QR code, open it and send an application. If the team accepts public applications, you'll also find the application button on its public page. You become a member once the owner or a manager approves it. Alternatively, send the owner your public code (#) and they can add you themselves. No team but want to play in a specific tournament or league? In the event application choose “Looking for a team” - the organiser will assign you to one of the teams and you'll join its roster. You can see and cancel the request in the Game zone under Played events.

In the Game zone under Teams → Playing teams. From there you can also leave a team or cancel an application nobody has approved yet.

Not necessarily - an organiser or team owner can add you as an anonymous player with just your name. To send applications and keep track of your teams, though, you need your own account.

Following

On the public page of a team or organizer, click the „Follow“ button - you can also follow an organizer straight from their card on the Organisations page or with the “Follow organiser” button on their tournament or league page. You need your own account to follow - if you are not logged in, the button takes you to the login page. You cannot follow your own team or your own organizer profile, so the button is not shown there. The „Follow“ button on a public profile also lets you follow a player - you cannot follow yourself.

When an organizer you follow publishes a new event (a tournament, league or race), or when a team you follow takes part in a new public event - that is, once it is confirmed in it. The notification comes by email with a short delay - only once for each new event of the organizer and each new participation of the team. We do not send notifications about events the organizer has not made public (public display turned off), nor about ended or cancelled events. We do not send emails when you follow a player - you will see their latest played matches in the feed in your Game zone overview.

In the Game zone, under „Following“ in the menu. You will find the teams, organizers and players you follow there, each with a „Following“ button - click it to unfollow and it turns into „Follow“, so you can undo it right away. You can also unfollow directly on the public page of the team or organizer, and every notification email links to „Following“.

Formats and playoff

Groups only (e.g. round robin), knockout bracket only (playoff), groups followed by a playoff, groups with an extra group stage, and a playoff with an additional bracket. In the playoff you can also set the number of matches per duel (e.g. home and away, or a series) and double elimination. You choose the format in the Configure step - ready-made templates prefill it for you.

Turn on „Groups?“ and add as many groups as you need - each has a title, a label (e.g. A, B) and a number of teams. Then set how many times two teams in a group meet (1 = single, 2 = home and away), points for a win, tie and loss (also after extra time) and the tie-break rules for equal points - change their order by dragging, check or uncheck them to turn them on or off.

Tournament guide

Turn on „Playoff?“ and set the bracket rounds (e.g. quarterfinal, semifinal, final) - each round has a title and a label. Choose the advancement criterion (total score or number of wins in a duel), how many matches two teams play in one duel (e.g. 1, home and away = 2, best of 3 = 3) and optionally double elimination. If the best teams from one place across groups should also advance (e.g. the 2 best third-placed teams), turn on „Do the best teams from one place across groups also advance?“ and set the compared place and the number of advancing teams.

Tournament guide

„Auto-fill“ prefills round 1 with cross-seeding from the groups - 1st place of one group plays the last advancing place of another, and so on (it only makes sense when the tournament also has groups). „Manual pick“ clears the fields and you choose the teams for the matches yourself. „Shuffle?“ draws round 1 - check the teams that go into the bracket and the app pairs them at random. If advancing the best teams from one place across groups is turned on, the bracket is seeded like a classic tournament (group winners against the lowest seeds) and teams from the same group avoid each other in round 1 whenever possible.

Tournament guide

The „Regenerate“ button (arrows icon) opens the groups form. For each group you choose: with „Shuffle?“ on, check the teams (or „Select all“) and the app draws them into the group at random; with it off, assign a specific team to each place in the group manually. Confirming the form replaces the current split with the new one.

Tournament guide

After the matches are generated, two green buttons appear at the top: „+“ creates a friendly match (choose teams, label, date, place, etc.) and the second button inserts a break with its own title and time into the schedule. A friendly doesn't count towards groups or the playoff. Note - regenerating the matches deletes added friendlies and breaks.

Results and standings

On the event's public page - for tournaments and leagues in the Overview, Groups (standings), Playoff, Matches, Teams and Players tabs, for races the stages and current standings. The Overview shows the winner (once the organiser enters the final ranking), upcoming matches or latest results and the venue. A result appears on the page as soon as the organiser enters it - just refresh the page.

On the Results page (you will find the link in the menu). It shows the matches of all public tournaments and leagues as well as race stages for the selected day, grouped by competition - the competition name leads to its public page and a match row to the match detail. Switch between days with the day strip (the week around today, with Yesterday / Today / Tomorrow labelled in words), the arrows or the Calendar button. The filters above the list show only one game (when several games are played that day) or only matches being played right now (LIVE only). For today the page refreshes itself every 30 seconds, so a new result appears without reloading the page. Matches that are being played right now according to the schedule are marked LIVE (the badge pulses), while matches that have not started yet carry a muted Scheduled label - the same applies on the match detail page. The result itself is entered by the organiser.

Results are entered only after the tournament is started with the „Confirm schedule“ button (in older tournaments „Start“). The wizard then moves you to the Schedule, where each match has a „Fill in“ button - enter the score, any extra time or result detail, the score by parts and player statistics.

Tournament guide

The table is calculated from played matches, so it only comes into play after the tournament starts. Then a „Close group“ button appears at the group, which calculates the standings based on results and tie-break rules - it can be run repeatedly, for example after correcting a result. Closing a group also places the advancing teams into the playoff bracket. The best teams from the table across groups (e.g. the table of 3rd places) are placed into the bracket once you close the last group.

Tournament guide

If you turn on „Do the best teams from one place across groups also advance?“ in the Configure step (Playoff part), a table appears below the groups that compares the teams in that place (e.g. 3rd) from all groups – by points and the group tie-break rules, without head-to-head. With groups of unequal size, matches against the last teams of the larger groups are not counted. Once you close the last group, the best teams from the table are placed into the bracket automatically; if one would meet a team from its own group in round 1, the app swaps them among themselves. For a complete tie on all rules, you decide – use the pencil next to the team to set „Custom order in the best-placed table“.

Tournament guide

Once the matches are generated or imported, a button with a printer icon appears at the top of the Matches step (once the tournament is started, you will find it at the top of the Schedule in the action panel). Choose the main stage or the playoff in it - a schedule for A4 paper opens in a new window (rounds with date and time, teams with a bye, and in the playoff still-unknown opponents shown by their bracket position). Use “Download PDF / Print” to print it, or choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog. If matches are played on several days, the same menu in the Game zone also offers a Day programme - all matches and breaks of one day (e.g. the finals day) in chronological order on one sheet. Anyone can download the same schedule on the public tournament page next to the matches and the playoff.

Tournament guide

Every match in the Matches step and in the Schedule has a “Match report” icon, and the public match page has a “Match report” button. An A4 report opens in a new window: the tournament, phase and round, date, time and venue, the score (including part scores), both teams' lineups with dress number, captain and assistant, player statistics by the columns from Settings, the match timeline, match details and finally space for notes and the signatures of the referee and both captains. Until the match has a result entered, the report is blank for filling in by hand - score boxes, tick boxes next to players, empty rows for extra players and the timeline. Use “Download PDF / Print” to print it or save it as a PDF.

Tournament guide

Every match in the Matches step and in the Schedule has a “LIVE screen” icon (a TV), the public match page has a “LIVE screen” button, and on the Results page a match being played right now has a TV icon. A dark page without any menu opens in a new window, made for a TV or projector: big team names and score, the tournament, phase and round, venue and court, part scores and the latest events from the match timeline. While the match is being played according to the schedule it has a pulsing LIVE label; before kick-off it shows the start time in large type, after the match the final score. The page refreshes by itself - every 15 seconds during the match, every 30 seconds before kick-off and while it waits for the result (every 5 minutes for a match further away); a finished match is no longer refreshed. Use “Fullscreen” (or the F key) to fill the whole screen. The score on the screen is the one you enter in Blyzer - just keep entering it during the match.
