The most common running competition formats

Choose the format that fits your event – Blyzer prepares the start list, results and standings. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Race

A classic running race – every runner starts for themselves and the finish time decides the ranking. For road races, cross-country, trail, half marathons and kids' runs with several courses.

How to: Create race → Configure → courses and categories → open entries → enter times → show rankings.

Running league / cup

A series of runs over the season – runners collect points for their placing in each round and the overall standings add up. For regional running cups, city leagues and school series.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and points system → Generate schedule → enter results as you go.

Relays and team runs

A team competition – corporate teams, schools or clubs collect points for their runners' placings or compete in a relay. The team with the best total wins.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → add teams → enter points or times.

Knockout runs

Heats, semi-finals and finals as a knockout bracket – the best from each heat advance. Suitable for sprints, stair runs and spectator-friendly city formats.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → no groups, play-off only → Seed runners → Generate bracket.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of runners and courses, and share tips on entries, bib numbers and timing.

Tip: For a one-off run choose a race with categories; for a series of runs over the season, a league with points.
