The most common gymnastics competition formats

Choose the format that fits your event – Blyzer prepares the start list, results and standings. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Race

An individual competition – every gymnast competes for themselves and the ranking is decided by the all-around total or the score on a single apparatus. For club, regional and school meets.

How to: Create race → Configure → categories and apparatus → open entries → enter scores → show rankings.

Team competition

Clubs or schools compete as teams – the best scores of the team members count towards the result. Typical for teamgym, school events and team all-around competitions.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → add teams → enter scores.

Cup / league

A series of competitions over the season – gymnasts or clubs collect points for their placing in each round and the overall standings add up. For regional cups and club leagues.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and points system → Generate schedule → enter results as you go.

Knockout duel

A spectator-friendly format – two gymnasts or two teams perform against each other and the winner advances in the bracket. Suitable for exhibitions, battle formats and acrobatics.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → no groups, play-off only → Seed competitors → Generate bracket.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of competitors and categories, and share tips on the apparatus timetable and judging panels.

Tip: For a one-off meet choose a race with categories; for a series of meets over the season, a cup with points.

Gymnastics – FAQ

Can I score both the all-around and the rankings on each apparatus?

Yes. You enter scores for each apparatus and Blyzer builds the apparatus rankings as well as the overall all-around rankings in every category.

How are categories divided?

You set categories by age, gender and performance level (e.g. U12 girls C, junior men A) – each has its own start list and results.

Is it suitable for team competitions and school meets too?

Yes. Club or school teams get their own standings from the sum of the best scores – suitable for teamgym and school gymnastics alike.

Can competitors enter themselves?

Yes. Send a link to the competition and coaches or parents fill in the entry themselves, you just confirm the start list.

How much does it cost?

The basics are free – you can create and organise a gymnastics competition or cup at no charge.
