Why organise orienteering with Blyzer?

Competitor registration

Runners sign up via a link into their class (e.g. M21, W16, open) and your start list is ready.

Start list and schedule

Set the format – a timed race, a series over several rounds or a knockout sprint – and the system prepares the schedule.

Times and rankings

Enter the course time, mark disqualifications for missing controls and the class rankings are recalculated automatically.

Race history

An archive of seasons and series – results and rankings are never lost.

The most common orienteering race formats

Choose the format that fits your race – Blyzer generates the start list, results and series standings. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Race

A classic timed orienteering race – every competitor runs for themselves and the course time decides the class ranking. A missing control means disqualification, which you mark in one click.

How to: Create race → Configure → classes and courses → open registration → enter times.

Race series

A regional ranking, a school cup or a club league over several rounds – points for every race, running standings and an overall winner at the end. Only the best results can count.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and points system → Generate schedule → enter results after each round.

Knockout sprint

After qualification competitors run in heats and the best advance to the semi-finals and the final. A spectator-friendly format for urban sprints and school events.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → number of groups and advancing runners → Generate groups → Generate play-off.

Relays and team races

Clubs or schools compete in teams – the sum of the relay members' times or the team's placing in the group. Ideal for school rounds and club championships.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → add teams → enter results.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of competitors and classes, and share tips on start intervals and series scoring.

Tip: For a single event choose a race with classes; for a whole season, a series with points by placing.

Orienteering – FAQ

Can competitors be split into classes by age and gender?

Yes. You keep separate rankings for every class (M/W, age classes, open, newcomers) – competitors sign up straight into their class at registration.

How do I mark a competitor who missed a control or did not finish?

When entering the result you mark them as disqualified or did not finish – they appear correctly below the classified runners in the rankings.

Is it suitable for school orienteering races too?

Yes. Even a school round with 40 pupils gets its own start list, times and results by class or year – clearly and in a few minutes.

How much does it cost?

The basics are free – you can create and run a race, series or tournament at no charge.
