The most common snooker tournament and league formats

Choose the format that fits your tournament – Blyzer generates the schedule, standings and bracket. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Knockout bracket

The snooker classic – lose and you are out. Seeding by ranking or by draw, best of 3 in the early rounds and best of 5 or 7 in the final. The most common format for club tournaments.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → no groups, play-off only → Seed players → Generate bracket.

Groups + play-off

Players are split into groups, play round-robin, and the best advance to the bracket. Everyone plays more matches than in a pure knockout – suitable for weekend tournaments.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → number of groups and advancing players → Generate groups → Generate play-off.

Round-robin

Everyone plays every opponent and the standings and frame ratio decide the final order. Ideal for smaller club tournaments of up to 8 players.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → Generate matches.

Double elimination

Every player gets two chances – after the first loss they continue in the losers' bracket. A fairer format when you do not want a strong player out after one bad match.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → double elimination play-off → Generate bracket.

Season-long league

A season over several months – rounds by calendar, standings with points and frame ratio; players arrange their matches at the hall themselves. For clubs, halls and groups of friends.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and players → Generate schedule → enter results as you go.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of players and tables, and share tips on seeding and match length.

Tip: With 16 players and 4 tables, go for a best-of-3 bracket; for a whole season, a round-robin league.

Snooker – FAQ

Can I set a different number of frames in the groups and in the final?

Yes. You choose the number of frames needed to win for each stage separately – for example best of 3 in the groups, best of 5 in the semi-finals and best of 7 in the final.

How is the group order decided when players are tied on points?

Head-to-head result and frame ratio decide – you set the rules according to your tournament and the standings follow them automatically.

Which format should I choose for 12 players and 3 tables?

We recommend 4 groups of 3 players and a play-off for the top 8 – everyone plays at least 2 matches and the tournament fits into one day.

How much does it cost?

The basics are free – you can create and run a tournament or league at no charge.
