The most common golf tournament and league formats

Choose the format that fits your tournament – Blyzer prepares the start list, results and standings. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Race (stableford / stroke play)

An individual tournament – every player plays for themselves and the ranking is decided by strokes or stableford points. The most common format for 18-hole club and corporate tournaments.

How to: Create race → Configure → categories and scoring method → open entries → enter results → show rankings.

Match play bracket

Players or pairs face each other hole by hole, lose and you are out. The classic format for club championships and autumn brackets, seeded by handicap.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → no groups, play-off only → Seed players → Generate bracket.

Club league / tour

A series of tournaments over the season – players collect points for their placing in each round and the overall standings add up. For club tours, corporate leagues and senior series.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and points system → Generate schedule → enter results as you go.

Team tournament (scramble, Ryder Cup)

A team competition – corporate teams, flights or clubs play scramble, four-ball or a Ryder Cup-style duel between two teams. The team with the best total wins.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → add teams → enter results.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of players and tournament length, and share tips on flights, tee times and scoring.

Tip: For a one-day tournament choose stableford; for a whole season, a league with points; for club championships, a match play bracket.

Golf – FAQ

Can a tournament be scored both gross and net?

Yes. You set categories (e.g. gross, net by handicap, women, seniors) and each has its own rankings – one player can be ranked in several.

Does Blyzer support stableford and stroke play?

Yes. You choose whether the highest stableford points or the lowest number of strokes decides, and Blyzer ranks players correctly.

How does the match play bracket work?

Create a knockout tournament, seed players by handicap or by draw, and after each match enter the winner – the bracket fills in automatically.

Is it suitable for a corporate or charity tournament too?

Yes. Entries via a link, a start list, results and rankings online – guests and sponsors see everything without retyping scorecards.

How much does it cost?

The basics are free – you can create and organise a golf tournament or league at no charge.
