The most common equestrian competition formats

Choose the format that fits your event – Blyzer prepares the start list, results and standings. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Race

An individual competition – every rider and horse pair starts for themselves. In show jumping penalty points and time decide, in dressage percentages, in western the judges' scores. For hobby and official shows.

How to: Create race → Configure → classes and categories → open entries → enter results → show rankings.

Equestrian cup / league

A series of shows over the season – riders collect points for their placing in each round and the overall standings add up. For regional show jumping cups, club leagues and kids' series.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and points system → Generate schedule → enter results as you go.

Team competition

Riding clubs or stables compete as teams – the best results of the team members count. Typical for inter-club meetings and team show jumping competitions.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → add teams → enter points.

Knockout duel

Two riders jump the course side by side or one after the other and the faster clear round advances in the bracket. A spectator-friendly format for exhibitions and evening classes.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → no groups, play-off only → Seed riders → Generate bracket.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of starters and classes, and share tips on the timetable and start order.

Tip: For a one-off show choose a race with classes by fence height; for a series of shows, a cup with points.

How does it work for equestrian events?

Equestrian – FAQ

How are show jumping rankings decided?

You enter penalty points and time – Blyzer ranks riders first by penalty points and, when tied, by time, exactly as at a show.

Can one rider start with several horses?

Yes. Each rider and horse pair has its own start and result, so a rider can appear in one class several times.

Can one show have several classes?

Yes. You create classes by fence height or dressage test (e.g. 60 cm, 80 cm, 100 cm, preliminary test) and each has its own start list and results.

Is it suitable for hobby and kids' shows too?

Yes. A club hobby show or a kids' pony competition gets online entries, a start list and results in minutes.

How much does it cost?

The basics are free – you can create and organise a horse show or cup at no charge.
