The most common skating competition formats

Choose the format that fits your event – Blyzer prepares the start list, results and standings. You can set up any format in the wizard in a few minutes.

Race

An individual race – every skater starts for themselves. In speed skating and inline time decides, in figure skating the judges' scores. For club, kids' and school races.

How to: Create race → Configure → categories and disciplines → open entries → enter results → show rankings.

Cup / league

A series of races over the season – skaters collect points for their placing in each round and the overall standings add up. For figure skating cups, inline series and club leagues.

How to: Create league → Configure → number of rounds and points system → Generate schedule → enter results as you go.

Team competition

Clubs, schools or synchronized teams compete as teams – the best results of the members or relays count. The team with the best total wins.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → 1 group, no play-off → add teams → enter points or times.

Knockout heats

Heats, semi-finals and finals as a knockout bracket – the best from each heat advance. Typical for short track and inline sprints with a large number of starters.

How to: Create tournament → Configure → no groups, play-off only → Seed skaters → Generate bracket.

Not sure which format to pick?

Our guides compare the formats, give recommendations by number of competitors and categories, and share tips on the ice timetable and heat order.

Tip: For a one-off race choose a race with categories; for a series of races over the season, a cup with points.
